For Arsenal U18s, Samuel Onyekachukwu hopes to become a key player.

Yesterday, Arsenal U18s lost 1-0 on the road to Reading; they have yet to win since Adam Birchall took over as manager.

After making an appearance as a late substitution in that match, teenage defender Samuel Onyekachukwu will now try to make a name for himself in the starting eleven.

After playing for the U18s as a schoolboy, Onyekachukwku, a defender and skilful playmaker, signed scholarship terms in the summer.

The young player has made six appearances for the U18s so far this season. In the UEFA Youth League match against Paris Saint-Germain, he was also substituted on the bench.

It is commonly known that Brayden Clarke and Will Sweet are the U18s’ preferred central-defensive duo.

Onyekachukwu, however, will be aiming to step up and take advantage of his opportunity if either player is sidelined at any point during this season.

Following the international break, Arsenal U18s will play their first game when they host Crystal Palace.
