WNBL: Liv Forster verbally pledges to attend Upstate University of South Carolina

Liv Forster, a talented player in the WNBL and WEABL, has verbally committed to University of South Carolina Upstate, an NCAA D1 school.

The class of 2024 guard was scouted by several D1 and D2 universities; following a protracted recruitment process, he ultimately decided on USC Upstate.

The GB U18 guard was MVP of Ipswich’s 2023 U18 National Championship-winning game and was nominated to the WEABL South Conference First Team in both of her full seasons playing in the Academy Leagues.

A Rising Star

The 5’6″ streaker has made a name for herself as one of the most entertaining players in the WEABL, WNBL, and Under 18 age groups very quickly.

Despite just being seventeen years old, she was a vital member of the Ipswich side that finished second in WNBL Division One in scoring in 2022/2023 and won the U18 National League and Cup double in 2023.

Forster also led the GB U18 women in scoring (11.3 ppg) at the European Championships held in Bulgaria last summer.

Liv joins Esther Little (Gonzaga), Susannah Rafiu (Columbia), Anya Mackenzie (Tarleton State), and Christabel Osarobo (Gonzaga) as the fifth D1 player to graduate from the Ipswich women’s programme in the last three years.

Forster was an integral part of the Manchester Mystics youth programme before moving to Ipswich, where she helped her team win the 2019 U14 National Championship.

“I am ecstatic to start this new chapter in my life. Playing basketball in the United States has always been my dream and objective, and it is finally a reality.

“The most significant thing to me was that USC Upstate has an excellent programme with great coaches, players, and people.

“I think I have made the right decision because this opportunity is about more than just basketball—it’s about the person I will spend the next four years of my young adulthood with.

“What an incredible opportunity this is for Liv, and if anyone deserves this, she does,” Ipswich head coach Nick Drane continued.

Over the past five years, Liv has virtually taken on the role of the face of Ipswich Basketball. She possesses the temperament, skill, and moral fibre to oversee a whole programme. I have had the privilege of coaching some of the best athletes I have ever encountered in Liv, and I will greatly miss our daily work together.

It would be incorrect to overlook the Manchester program’s contribution to this endeavour and all of the other coaches who worked with Liv prior to her move to Ipswich.

“It says a lot about the wonderful people working at their club that they did not interfere with Liv’s decision to move on.”

This weekend, Forster and her teammate from Ipswich will be lining up at Manchester’s National Basketball Performance Centre to compete for the WNBL National Cup against Thames Valley Cavaliers.
